Summary

The Ashes 2025 series starts from November 21 with England looking for their first Test series win in Australia since the 2010-11 series.

Glenn McGrath backs Australia to win Ashes

Former Australian legend Glenn McGrath has backed Australia to beat England 5-0 in the upcoming Ashes series. The Aussies are the current holders of the Ashes, having drawn the series in 2023 after having previously won the urn in 2021-22.

Australia will be hosting England in the Ashes this time around, which makes them the favourites to win the series at home as well. England, having failed to win the Test series against India after leading the series at one point, have put them in an iffy position.

England and India both kicked off their WTC 2025-27 series campaign with the recently concluded Test series. England were leading 2-1 heading into the fifth Test. However, India managed to win the Oval Test and drew the series 2-2. In the process, they have pipped ahead of England in the WTC 2025-27 points table.

McGrath Backs Australia To Win 5-0

The Ashes 2025 series starts from November 21, with England looking for their first Test series win in Australia since the 2010-11 series. Back then, Andrew Strauss led them to a 3-1 series win. Meanwhile, Glenn McGrath, speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live, predicted Australia to beat England 5-0 in the Ashes.

"It's very rare for me to make a prediction, isn't it? And I can't make a different one - 5-0," McGrath told BBC Radio 5 Live.

He further praised the Australian bowling attack, saying that the depth in the attack is one of the major reasons why he keeps them ahead in the contest. The likes of Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood and Nathan Lyon cumulatively have over 1000 Test wickets.

"I'm very confident with our team. When you've got Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood and Nathan Lyon firing in their home conditions, it's going to be pretty tough. "Plus, that track record England have had, it'd be interesting to see if they can win a Test” he said.

England Winless In Ashes In Australia Since 2010-11

The last time Australia won an Ashes series 5-0 was back in 2013-14 Down Under, with Mitchell Johnson taking 37 wickets in the series. England drew the last Ashes series 2-2, but have not held the urn since 2015.
