The Ajit Agarkar-led selection panel is set to see a major overhaul after the Indian team for the upcoming Asia Cup 2025 was announced. Suryakumar Yadav is all set to lead the team in the tournament with Shubman Gill named as vice-captain.

Meanwhile, just days after the Indian team was announced, the BCCI has invited applications for the role of national selector for both men’s and women’s cricket, including the Senior Men’s Selection Committee.

The selection further confirms that two members from the current panel will be replaced, with one of them being South Zone selector S Sharath, who has already completed his four-year term. A report by the Times of India also confirmed the same.

BCCI Invites Applications For National Selector's Role

Meanwhile, the BCCI has invited applications for the role of national selector via a press release on Thursday. The board is looking to fill two positions in the Senior Men’s Selection Committee.

The eligibility criteria for the applicants has also been detailed. The applicants should have played a minimum of seven Test matches, or 30 First-Class matches, or a combination of 10 ODIs and 20 First-Class games. Add to that, they should have retired from international cricket atleast five years ago and should not have served the BCCI cricket committee for a cumulative period of five years.

The current panel of the men’s selection committee is headed by Agarkar alongside SS Das, Subroto Banerjee, Ajay Ratra, and S Sharath. With S Sharath being one of the selectors to be replaced, the focus is on the other name who is set to be excluded from the panel.

BCCI Extends Ajit Agarkar's Tenure Till June 2026

BCCI’s recent announcement comes on the back of Ajit Agarkar’s extension as the Chairman of Selectors for the men’s team till June 2026. The board was reportedly happy with Agarkar’s efforts in helping the Indian team win the T20 World Cup and Champions Trophy titles.

“Under his tenure the Indian team had won titles and had seen transition (of the Tests and T20) too. The BCCI had extended his contract till June 2026 and he had accepted the offer a few months back,” a BCCI official told The Indian Express.
