Australia’s Shaun Tait Takes Bangladesh Pace Bowling Coaching Role

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has announced the appointment of former Australian speedster Shaun Tait as the national team’s pace bowling coach till November 2027, a strategic move aimed at bolstering the Tigers’ fast-bowling arsenal ahead of the upcoming ICC events, 2026 T20 World Cup and 2027 ODI World Cup.

Tait, renowned for his blistering pace during his playing days, will serve in the role, replacing New Zealand’s Andre Adams, who was appointed in March 2024. His brief tenure ended after underwhelming Bangladesh’s underwhelming performances in the T20 World Cup 2024 and Champions Trophy 2025.

Tait’s appointment is contrary to the earlier reports of BCB seeking Umar Gul as the pace bowling coach.

Shaun Tait Named Bangladesh’s Pace Bowling Coach Until 2027

At 42, Shaun Tait brings a wealth of experience both as a player and a coach. A key member of Australia’s 2007 ODI World Cup-winning squad, Tait played 59 international matches across formats, claiming 95 wickets with his express pace.

His coaching resume is equally impressive, having worked with Pakistan, Afghanistan and the West Indies. In his coaching career, Tait has been a part of different franchises across the globe.

Tait expressed enthusiasm about joining Bangladesh during what he described as a "new era" for the team.

"It's a good time to be involved with the Bangladesh cricket team right now, a bit of a new era if you like. It's been spoken about many times recently-the young talent with the fast bowlers-which is great. This is international cricket, not a development team, and everyone expects the talent to bring results, which is very much my focus with the fast bowling group and most importantly, getting more wins for the team," Tait said as quoted.

He is excited to work alongside Phil Simmons, who is the Bangladesh head coach currently.

"To have the opportunity to work with Phil Simmons is equally as exciting and I'm looking forward to the journey ahead," Tait added.

Bangladesh’s Upcoming Matches

Tait’s immediate challenge will be to prepare Bangladesh’s pacers for a packed international schedule. The team is set to tour the UAE for two T20Is scheduled on May 17 and 19, followed by a five-match T20I series in Pakistan, starting May 25.

Long-term, Tait’s mandate is to groom Bangladesh’s pace attack for the 2026 T20 World Cup and 2027 ODI World Cup.
