Not only for the Hazare tournament, but the Board has decided to introduce a plate format for other one-day matches. Notably, only the Ranji Trophy had an elite and plate format in place. However, with an eye on making the domestic one-day cups more competitive, the BCCI has decided to have plate formats.

The mega domestic 2025/26 season will kick off with the Duleep Trophy on August 28 to September 15. As per The Times of India, one-day tournaments, including Vijay Hazare Trophy, Senior Women's one-day games, and Under-23 Men's state A Trophy, will see teams placed in four elite and one plate group. The report mentions that only one among the four teams will be promoted or demoted between the elite and plate groups from this domestic season.
