PBKS beat LSG by 37 runs as Arshdeep shone with the ball and Prabhsimran scored 91. Punjab move to 2nd in IPL 2025 standings
The Lucknow Super Giants’ opening duo, Mitchell Marsh and Aiden Markram, took to the crease, but Arshdeep Singh bowled a tight first over. However, LSG managed to find gaps, with Markram starting the chase strongly, hitting a four and a six to collect 12 runs off Marco Jansen’s over.
Arshdeep Singh Rattles LSG Top Order in Fiery Spell
Arshdeep Singh struck early, dismissing Markram with a beautifully swung delivery that bowled him out. Singh didn’t stop there; he followed up by dismissing Mitchell Marsh for a duck in the same over. Within just three overs, LSG’s openers were back in the pavilion.
Things worsened for LSG as Arshdeep Singh picked up another crucial wicket, trapping Nicholas Pooran lbw in the next over, leaving LSG reeling at 27/3 while chasing a massive target of 237 runs. Rishabh Pant and Ayush Badoni managed to add another 11 runs, ending the powerplay at 37/3.
Rishabh fails and bat flies
As pressure mounted, Pant found some boundaries and a six, but his innings was cut short by Azmatullah Omarzai, who took a stunning catch off Pant’s shot through extra cover. Pant departed for 18 off 17 balls, marking another failure for the LSG captain.
David Miller joined Ayush Badoni at the crease with LSG struggling at 58/4. However, Miller succumbed to the pressure and became Azmatullah's second wicket of the night.
Ayush Badoni and Abdul Samad Fights Back
Next, Abdul Samad came in, and both he and Badoni began to fight back against the PBKS bowlers. Despite the daunting target, Samad played the anchor role while Badoni took on the bowlers. Runs flowed for LSG, particularly in the 12th over, where both batters sent VijayKumar Vysakh for 21 runs. This over unleashed both batsmen, who continued to build a solid 81-run partnership.
However, Marco Jansen eventually broke the partnership. A few balls later, Ayush Badoni reached his fifty off just 32 balls, hitting a massive six. Badoni emerged as LSG’s best batter this season, proving to be reliable in the middle order.
LSG Fell Short
Despite their efforts, LSG ended up scoring 199/7 in their 20 overs, falling short by 37 runs. PBKS secured a significant victory after losing their last four matches in Dharamshala, climbing to second place in the standings and looking like a strong team this season. Meanwhile, LSG slipped further down to seventh place in the points table, with their chances of reaching the playoffs diminishing as they need to win all three of their remaining matches to qualify.
PBKS will be pleased with their overall performance and need just one more win to secure a spot in the playoffs, as they face Delhi Capitals next in Dharamshala.
