Indian pacer Mohammad Shami has been targeted with a death threat through an email, leading his brother, Haseeb Ahmed, to file an FIR with the Amroha Police in Uttar Pradesh.
The email, which demanded INR 1 crore, has sparked concerns for the safety of Shami, currently representing Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the Indian Premier League 2025 (IPL 2025).
The incident came to light when Haseeb, residing in Sahaspur Ali Nagar, Amroha, accessed Mohammad Shami’s email account on Sunday while the cricketer was engaged in IPL duties. He found a threatening message from someone named Rajput Sindhar, demanding INR 1 crore and mentioning an unknown individual, Prabhakar, from Bengaluru.

Haseeb immediately reported the matter to the Amroha Police, providing a printed copy of the email as evidence. The FIR has been filed under Section 308(4) of the Indian Penal Code (BNS), 2023, and Sections 66d and 66e of the Information Technology (Amendment) Act, 2008.
The 34-year-old, renowned for his swing and key contributions to India’s recent Champions Trophy triumph, remains a vital asset, claiming nine wickets in five matches in the tournament, including a five-wicket haul against Bangladesh. However, his performance has dipped lately as he has taken only six wickets in nine games in the IPL 2025 so far at an economy of 11.23.

Mohammad Shami Receives Death Threat After Gautam Gambhir
The incident follows similar email threats to Indian team head coach Gautam Gambhir last month, which led to heightened security measures.
