Iyer Pant PBKS vs LSG

Punjab Kings (PBKS) registered an emphatic eight-wicket victory against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at the Ekana Stadium on April o1 2025 in Lucknow. Shreyas Iyer continued his purple patch as he scored his second successive fifty and remained unbeaten on 52 runs to ensure PBKS did not face any hiccups in the 173-run chase.

PBKS wasted no time in celebrating this thumping victory over LSG and took to social media to lavish praise on their skipper, Shreyas Iyer. Not only that, PBKS also took a subtle dig at LSG captain Rishabh Pant.

After being bought for a jaw-dropping amount of INR 27 crore at the IPL 2025 mega auction, Pant expressed massive relief about not being picked up by PBKS, who entered the mega auction with the largest purse among the 10 franchises. Now, PBKS got a chance to brutally roast Pant with a social media post, asserting how all their worries vanished in the auction itself when they secured Shreyas Iyer for INR 26.75 crore.

"Tension toh auction mein hi khatam ho gayi thi (Our tension was over at the auction)!" tweeted out Punjab Kings, via their X handle, with a video of Shreyas Iyer.

This post by PBKS came as a subtle reference to PBKS choosing Shreyas Iyer over Rishabh Pant at the mega auction. PBKS's decision to secure Shreyas for a hefty price is proving to be a masterstroke. The 30-year-old has played a starring role with bat in hand for the side's two wins against GT and LSG.

Shreyas Iyer continues his dream run, Rishabh Pant eager to get back to form

With a huge price tag comes big expectations. So far, Shreyas Iyer has lived up to that tag by scoring (97) and (52) in PBKS's two games. The PBKS skipper is also yet to be dismissed in the IPL 2025 season. However, in contrast, Pant is struggling for form, as the southpaw has scores of a duck, 15, and 2 runs in his first three games for LSG.

Iyer's dream run has continued, as after being the second-highest run-scorer in the ICC Champions Trophy, the right-hand batter has carried that form to IPL. Not only the runs, but Shreyas has also been spot on with regards to captaincy. On the other hand, Pant has looked scratchy with the bat, as well as with his captaincy calls. Currently, PBKS sits second on the points table, while LSG has slipped to sixth after this massive loss to PBKS.
