India's newest Test captain, Shubman Gill, would not have imagined such a dream start as a batter while leading the team in the ongoing high-profile Test series against England. The 25-year-old had a great start as a captain in his first Test as a batter as he slammed an effortless 147 in the first Leeds Test. However, it is the second Test hundred that he scored in the first innings of the ongoing second Test in Edgbaston that must have pleased him. It was a very measured knock and a responsible innings, given the circumstances India were placed after electing to bat first.
The visitors lost KL Rahul and Karun Nair in the first hour on a pretty flat Leeds track. However, India's Test skipper handled the situation well and mixed caution with aggression. In the process, Gill became the first Indian captain to score 300 plus runs in an overseas Test series at the age of 25.
