Former India cricketer Ravichandran Ashwin almost got massively scammed, & ended up nearly sharing the phone number of Virat Kohli at the end of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2025) season. Speaking on his YouTube Channel, the CSK off-spinner narrated this hilarious story of how someone texted him, claiming to be New Zealand opener Devon Conway.
The veteran cricketer also revealed how he chatted with the person, thinking it was his CSK teammate, and wished him well for future projects. However, Ashwin sensed something was fishy when the person started to ask numbers of various prominent players.

"After the IPL got over, one guy messaged me, claiming to be Devon Conway, ‘Hi buddy, how are you?’ and I also responded, ‘We'll stay in touch. You're playing in MLC; I'll watch the games.’ He then asked, ‘I've lost Virat Kohli's number, can you share it?’ I thought, Why is he asking for Virat's number? I thought I should ask him, but I didn't want Devon Conway to misunderstand. Then I picked Virat Kohli's card and gave him a different number," Ashwin said on his YouTube channel.

"Once I shared it, he replied, ‘I've lost a few more numbers.’ I asked whose numbers, and he responded, ‘Rohit Sharma and MS Dhoni.’ I got suspicious and thought somebody was playing a prank," Ashwin added.
Ashwin outsmarts the scammer by asking about the bat he presented to Conway
There is not an iota of doubt that Ashwin comes across as one of the wittiest cricketers across the globe. Often, his teammates and peers always rave about his quick thinking and humor. The off-spinner used his wittiness and asked the scammer pretending to be Conway about the bat he presented during the IPL season. That is when the scammer got bowled and could not continue the prank.

"I then asked him a question, ‘I gave you a bat this year, how's that bat?’ He said the bat is amazing, but I hadn't even given him a bat. He lied, and I blocked him instantly. The guy took a chance. I went back to the CSK group and checked Devon Conway's number, and it was not the same. At least I had the smarts to send the duplicate card of Virat. It was his WhatsApp number in Australia. Thank goodness, because he was asking for everybody's numbers," he concluded.
Speaking about Ashwin, he is currently in the news about parting ways with CSK. Notably, the off-spinner failed to make an impact playing for the franchise this IPL season. He played nine games, conceding over nine runs per over, which also happened to be his most runs conceded in an IPL season. CSK is yet to confirm if it wishes to discontinue with the player.
