How CSK missed out on Priyansh Arya

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) became the first team to be knocked out of IPL 2025. CSK's loss to Punjab Kings (PBKS) ensured that they now cannot make the IPL 2025 playoffs.

CSK broke several records with their loss to Punjab Kings. Kings have now won seven out of the last 8 games against CSK. As a side, Chennai has now not made the IPL playoffs back-to-back in 2024 and 2025. They headed into the IPL 2024 season as the defending champions but finished fifth on the table.

They have now lost five matches at the Chepauk in IPL 2025, which once was considered as their fort. They lost four out of their seven games at the Chepauk in 2007, and in 2012 they lost 10 matches at the Chepauk, including the final against KKR.

Priyansh Arya, Ignored By CSK, Scored His Maiden IPL Ton Against Them

MS Dhoni, in press conferences time and again, has spoken about how the team has lost matches due to the players not performing as a whole. He said that several players have underperformed for the franchise in unison, which has not helped the franchise to win games this season.

Now, a report from Indian Express revealed how the team management ignored a few names suggested to them by the talent scouts ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction. One of the names CSK missed out on was Priyansh Arya, who is having a dream debut in the IPL for Punjab Kings. In fact, Arya scored his maiden IPL ton against CSK this season. In 10 games, Priyansh has scored 346 runs at a stunning strike rate of 196.59. He has also smashed the third-fastest IPL century by an Indian this season.

The report further suggested that the entire CSK management, starting from the coach, captain, and other senior members, did not pick him in the auction. The report added that in the past, they have ignored special talents from Tamil Nadu like Varun Chakravarthy and Sai Sudharshan, who went on to make it big with other teams in the IPL.

CSK decided to retain their veterans Ravindra Jadeja and Shivam Dube. They retained their skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad and also pace sensation Matheesha Pathirana. They retained MS Dhoni as an uncapped player, a rule that was brought back by the BCCI, especially for him. CSK bought players like R. Ashwin, Vijay Shankar, Deepak Hooda, and Rahul Tripathi, which did not work out to their advantage.
