The Indian Premier League (IPL) chairman Arun Dhumal has given a massive statement, saying the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will choose a new president 'unanimously'. There were several reports stating that the new BCCI President will be chosen in the upcoming Board Annual General Meeting (AGM) on September 28. However, Dhumal has denied the claim, stating the elections might not be held this year.

While the rules allow for an election, the appointment can also be a unanimous choice if the candidate is guaranteed to secure a unanimous verdict. If this happens, then there is no need for an election, and the candidate is appointed unopposed.

"The nominations would start, and you will get to know who is becoming. I don't think there will be any elections. It would be done unanimously," Dhumal told NDTV on Friday.
"So, let the members sit and take a call. As of now, everyone has to give their representation. Once that list is out, we will be able to make out who will be taking what position."

Roger Binny to resign, as new BCCI President set to replace ex-cricketer

Currently, former Indian cricketer Roger Binny, who is also the current BCCI President, was deemed ineligible to continue in the role as he turned 70 on July 19. At present, Vice-President Rajeev Shukla has been managing things at the pole position. He has been the Vice-President since late 2020, and is also now the senior-most office-bearer in the board's present regime.

Notably, the date given for the BCCI elections set to be held in Mumbai also coincides with the day of the Asia Cup 2025 final on September 28, set to be played in Dubai. If India manages to reach the summit clash, then there is a possibility that none of the office bearers will be in attendance for the AGM.

Besides the AGM update, Dhumal also revealed that Team India's title jersey sponsor name will be announced in two-three weeks. The search for a new sponsor has been on ever since its deal with Dream11 came to an end after the passing of the Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Bill 2025.

"I think what is done is done (on Dream 11's exit). I would not like to talk about that. But we have started the ball rolling as far as the next sponsor is concerned. I am sure within 2-3 weeks we will get to know that," Dhumal told reporters on Friday, on the sidelines of PlayCom 2025 summit.
