MS Dhoni, who recently participated in a show in Chennai, answered one of the most asked questions about his future, whether he’ll play in the IPL 2026. However, his witty answer left the crowd in splits.
Dhoni is enjoying his off-season, as the former CSK captain was spotted travelling across Tamil Nadu and spending time in Chennai. He is also expanding his sporting business, recently opening a new Pickleball court named 7Padel. Along with CSK skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad and music producer Anirudh, Dhoni attended the opening ceremony.

Dhoni Jokes About IPL Return
Following that, Dhoni took part in a fan interaction show where attendees were allowed to ask him various questions. One fan asked the typical question whether he would return to play in the next IPL season. Dhoni, staying true to his style, replied with a witty remark:
“Who will take care of the pain in my knees?”
This isn’t the first time Dhoni has addressed the question. In a previous event, he said he hasn’t made a decision yet:
“I don't know whether I'll play or not. I have time to decide. I have some time until December, so I'll take another couple of months, and then finally, I can make my decision,” Dhoni said, keeping the door slightly open for another season.
Dhoni’s knee has been troubling him since 2023. Despite this, he continues to take the field for two months every year, representing CSK in the IPL. The five-time champions haven’t won a title in the last two years, mainly due to a weak batting line-up — something Dhoni himself admitted.

Dhoni Hints at Leadership Change, CSK to Revamp Batting
Looking ahead to next season, Dhoni has unofficially confirmed that Ruturaj Gaikwad will lead the side in 2026. CSK are also planning to tweak their batting order in the upcoming mini-auction and are reportedly ready to release around 8–9 players.

Meanwhile, CSK may get active in the trade window. There is speculation that Ravi Ashwin has requested a release. At the same time, Sanju Samson is also reported to be in a similar situation. A potential trade between CSK and RR was considered Ashwin for Samson but Rajasthan reportedly asked for an additional player (Shivam Dube or Ravindra Jadeja) in return. CSK rejected the proposal and, according to reports, are willing to go for a full cash deal for the 30-year-old wicketkeeper-batter.
